The other side of the fence, where the grass IS greener...Greenside Cafe!

Wow, I just had one of those...you guessed it...life-changing experiences! I decided to treat myself, especially since I have made it through the vegan challenge without cheating (or even wanting to!) or slipping up. So, I took myself out to a vegan-friendly restaurant and try a real chef's take on vegan food (since I went vegan I've been cooking for myself, with impressive results, if I do say so myself). Well, from a list I found on the interweb, I chose to give The Greenside Cafe a try.
And I ordered the Burger King: a mung-bean burger served on rye with avocado, and it comes with a salad and a side of your choice. I decided to try the 'sauteed tofu' as a side, since I hadn't yet tried tofu.

Well.

I know it may not sound appetising, but I would urge the skeptics out there to give it a try. For R68,00 it's a good deal (I discovered afterwards that mung beans, available only from health shops as far as I can tell, are quite pricey!). The burger was so tasty that I almost ordered a second helping - an entire second lunch! And the tofu, well suffice it to say that on the way home I stopped off and bought some for my fridge. It's got fantastic potential, and really costs little more than my old friend cheese.
And what a truly lovely establishment The Greenside Cafe is: it has an atmosphere of genuine health and planetary concern. The food is fresh and inspiring.

So do yourself a favour, if you need a pick-me-up, a conversion, or just a really good meal. The Greenside Cafe offers vegetarian as well as vegan meals (no meat dishes at all, though) and is a must if you find yourself in the area.

...And they did not pay me to write this! I am simply writing it as an example of how I have been continually amazed by the genuine superiority of meatless, cheeseless, eggless meals, throughout this vegan challenge.

That's all for now...
Til next time!
xx
